Materials Fire Properties Testing Laboratory belongs to the organizational structure of the Faculty of Maritime Technology and Transport of the West Pomeranian University of Technology, Szczecin. Due to demand for research on the combustibility of materials used in civil engineering, shipbuilding and railways, in 1999 on the initiative of Zygmunt Sychta PhD a Materials Fire Properties Testing Laboratory has been established. Zygmunt Sychta - the first head of the Laboratory - along with a team of co-workers: Krystyna Olender, Helena Iwaszczyńska and Krzysztof Sychta, implemented a quality management system and obtained accreditation in 2000 by the Polish Center for Testing and Certification - currently the Polish Center for Accreditation. After passing Zygmunt Sychta for retirement in 2011, the head of the Laboratory was Krzysztof Sychta PhD. Since September 2013, the head of the Laboratory is Renata Dobrzyńska PhD.
Since 1974, the Materials Fire Properties Testing Laboratory has a Approval Certificate Polish Register of Shipping and has been on the list of recognized laboratories published by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for many years.
